Hardware RAID

Hardware RAID is provided in hardware, either in the SCSI or SATA controller, on the motherboard directly, or as a PCI card.

This operates faster than Software RAID as it consumes no CPU cycles, although it is typically more expensive to implement.

These days, most Hardware RAID normally also includes a write-cache with a battery to finish writing out data if power is lost.
