MIME - Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions

The MIME system was originally designed for use in SMTP email, as a way of describing content types in attachments and sections of the message.

The system was adopted by HTTP, and is used in the Content-Type HTTP Header of responses sent from the server to the browser.
