Any web page, image, or other file which is stored on the web server, and sent to a requesting browser without being changed.
Static content can be cached by web servers, proxies or your browser. When you want to view the content again, the brower will ask the server if the content has changed, and if not, you may be shown your cached-version. This avoids having to download the content each time.
A website consisting of only static content can be saved to your own computer, and viewed again as it appeared on the website. No web server is necessary to view the content.
